What is Jacksmith?
Jacksmith is a weapon-building game developed by Flipline Studios, released in 2012 after being in the works for over a year. You play as a donkey blacksmith on a mission that takes you across the land, but the trails are blocked by a variety of monsters — so you call in the local warrior clans for help, designing swords, bows, shields, and other weapons in a completely hands-on blacksmith shop to equip them for battle. Jacksmith is similar to other Flipline games such as Papa’s Cheeseria, but instead of building sandwiches you are crafting weapons for battle — starting by molding molten copper into swords and hammering them before finishing them with a handle fit for a warrior’s hands. After each day at the forge, your soldiers walk into battle against various monsters and enemies using the weapons you crafted, and while they fight, loot flies out for you to claim in the form of gems to spend in the shop and precious metals to craft with. There are eight different elements in the game — Fire, Water, Ice, Stone, Wind, Lightning, Plant, and Shadow — and some enemies are enchanted with a specific element, making them weak to weapons boosted with that same element, which adds a strategic layer to every crafting decision you make. A full remaster of the game called Jacksmith: Weapons and Warriors was released on Steam on May 13, 2025, featuring updated graphics, widescreen support, new warrioress characters, an enhanced bookmark system, and all the core gameplay of the original rebuilt from the ground up.
Controls
Jacksmith is controlled entirely with the left mouse button, which you use to interact with every step of the weapon-crafting process throughout the entire game. Each weapon has two major stats — power and durability — and crafting one requires you to go through several distinct steps: selecting an ore and a mold, melting the metal, pouring it into the mold, forming and cooling it down, and then adding finishing details. Each step requires you to pay close attention to timing and placement, and better metals will always produce weapons with higher power and durability scores. You have four crafting slots available at your workstation, which allows you to multitask and start working on a second weapon in the next slot while the first one is still being forged, dramatically increasing your efficiency once you get comfortable with the process. During the battle phase your role shifts to gathering loot that flies onto the battlefield and operating your cannon to assist your warriors, all still done entirely through mouse clicking. Getting consistently good at Jacksmith means treating every crafting session with care, understanding the elemental system deeply, and never cutting corners on the forging steps even when you are tempted to rush through them. Make sure to craft weapons perfectly by forging the weapon first, then hammering the edges carefully to refine them, and finally attaching the handle correctly — rushing any of these steps results in a lower weapon score, which directly translates to your warriors performing worse in battle and less loot being dropped for you to collect.

Always pay attention to which enemies are elemental enemies before deciding which ore and parts to use, since elemental enemies are specifically weak to the element they are enchanted with — sending your warriors into battle with the wrong elemental boost is essentially throwing away a free advantage that the game hands you for free every time you check the enemy roster before crafting. Weapons with higher scores perform significantly better in combat and result in more loot for you to use at your weapon creation station, so every fraction of quality you add during the crafting phase compounds directly into better resources and more upgrade options down the road. During the battle phase, focus on scooping up as many gemstones, scrap, and loot drops as possible before the battle moves on, since these materials are your primary source of income for purchasing better ores and weapon parts from the shop. Making full use of all four crafting slots at once is one of the single most impactful efficiency improvements you can make — players who craft one weapon at a time will always fall behind on equipping their warriors compared to players who keep all four slots running simultaneously throughout every crafting phase.
