What is Getaway Shoutout?
Getaway Shootout is a challenging racing and parkour game created and developed by the indie game company New Eich Games, released on August 27th, 2018. The objective of the game is to race other players to the finishing checkpoint of each unique map, and along the way players collect and use weapons and items to eliminate other competitors or defend and heal themselves while doing so. The concept of the game is that four characters are escaping a dangerous situation — which might be a falling aeroplane — where you need to be the first to get to the parachute, and only the first one reaching the goal will be saved, making it completely fair to use all available resources to prevent the others from advancing while keeping the focus on being fast and efficient in your moves. There are multiple rounds in the race, each taking place in a different location, and there are over 30 characters to choose from that can be unlocked using coins earned through gameplay. Since its original release the game has had four major updates including new maps, characters, modes, and visuals, and it can be played both in a web browser and downloaded through the App Store.
Controls
In single-player mode, Player 1 uses the W and E keys to jump left and right and the R key to use power-ups. In two-player mode, Player 1 still uses W, E, and R, while Player 2 uses the I, O, and P keys. Clicking W or E will orient the character toward either the left or right, while releasing them after a longer press will make the character jump in that same direction — meaning the longer you hold a key, the bigger the jump in that direction. The game also features a Time Trial mode that serves as a practice session to help new players get familiar with the rules and the unique physics-based controls before jumping into competitive rounds. The control scheme is intentionally simple with just three buttons, but mastering the timing and the ragdoll physics that come with it takes genuine practice and is what separates beginners from experienced players. Getting consistently good at Getaway Shootout is almost entirely about mastering the physics engine and learning to work with the chaos rather than against it. Move by jumping rather than trying to run side to side, and use the physics-based controls skillfully — timing your jumps precisely and waiting for the right moment to overcome obstacles on each map is far more effective than mashing buttons and hoping for the best. Master the jetpack by using short controlled bursts of flight rather than holding it down continuously, as this gives you far more precision and lets you conserve fuel for moments when you truly need it. Coins are earned through gameplay and are the only way to unlock new characters — earning them requires racking up kills at 2 coins each, winning getaways at 7 coins each, maintaining a positive kill-to-death ratio for 3 bonus coins, finishing in first place for 5 coins, or completing a round without dying at all for 5 coins, so focusing on kills and getaways simultaneously is the most efficient way to build your collection.
